Clarence Randall Campbell, 83, (aka Clancy or Tad) beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor, died as a passenger in a black-ice auto accident near Pendleton, Oregon - returning home from a week-long family vacation where he attended the baptism of twin great-grandsons in Everett WA.
He graduated from Rupert High School, June 1943. Attended BYU briefly, enlisted in Army Air Force - radio operator and navigator [1944 -1946]. Served honorably in the LDS British Mission, 1946 to 1948, and returned to BYU where he met his eternal sweetheart, Elna Shakespear. They were married in the Manti Temple, 19 May 1949.
Clancy loved the Lord, and spent his life of service in the LDS church in many callings. In October 1973, at age 47 he was ordained a Stake Patriarch by Apostle Thomas S. Monson. He served as President of the California Los Angeles Mission 1984 to 1987; 1994-1995 Leadership Missionaries, [Malaysia & Pakistan]; Coordinators of International Humanitarian Missionaries 1996-1998. They also enjoyed teaching S.S. classes at the women's unit of the Salt Lake Metro Jail for three years, 2005 - 2008.
Survived by wife, Elna, and children: Jolene (Alan) Lasson, Scott (Ronda Higgins), Peggy L. Maynes (Alan, deceased), Christiane (Robert) Poll, and Douglas (Alla Sarkisova); also 32 grandchildren and 30 gr-grandchildren; brother David R. Campbell, step-brothers William B. Thomas and Russell B. Thomas, sisters Gladys Garner and Fern Robbins. Preceded in death by son John Shakespear Campbell, parents, brothers Ralph and LaVar, sisters Maxine, Elvera and Dorothy, and son-in-law Alan Maynes. Funeral Sat. Nov. 14, 2009. Military burial at the Valley View Memorial Park, West Valley City, Utah.
