Born in Peters Township, Washington Co PA, son of James Johnston and Jane Morrow. Husband of Rebecca Black.

The Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Saturday 22 July 1905, front page - FUNERAL WAS HELD TODAY -- Many People Pay Last Tribute of Respect to Robert Johnston - The funeral of ROBERT JOHNSTON, who died yesterday, was held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from his late home, south of town. The services were conducted by Rev. Robert Howard Taylor, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Johnston had long been a member. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors. Mr. Johnston having been widely known. The interment was made in the Oak Spring Cemetery. Mr. Johnston was born September 30, 1817, on a farm in Peters Township, and was the son of JAMES JOHNSTON, who moved into Peters Township from Allegheny County almost a century ago. Robert Johnston married REBECCA BLACK on March 2, 1841, and she died in 1872. Mr. Johnston was a Democrat in politics, and had been all his life an exemplary citizen.
