Kathy was born on May 23, 1954 in Eugene, Oregon to Bert and Margaret Hinchman. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1972 and University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy in 1976. It was at the University of Puget Sound where she met Thomas W. Kolano. They were married on May 10, 1980 in Tacoma, WA.
Kathy's Occupational Therapy career began in Walla Walla, Washington, in 1977 before she relocated to Tacoma, WA in 1978. Following their marriage, Kathy and Tom relocated to Hayward, California, where they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Emily Ann. The family relocated to Bakersfield, California, in 1996 and finally to Germantown, Tennessee in 2002.
She was a member of Germantown United Methodist Church where she worshipped. She enjoyed running 5k races, watching sunsets, bike riding, walking, and traveling. She worked with Baptist Healthcare as an occupational therapist, specifically at Baptist Rehabilitation Germantown.
Her father, Bert Hinchman, precedes Kathy in her death. She is survived by her husband, Thomas W. Kolano, and daughter, Emily Ann Kolano. She is also survived by her mother, Margaret Hinchman, and sister, Janice Martin, of Roseburg, Oregon.
Services to celebrate Kathy's life will be held in Tacoma, Washington, with a scattering of ashes in Commencement Bay and a burial of her ashes at the Danish Cemetery in Junction City, Oregon, beside her father, Bedstemor (grandmother), and Uncle Harvey.
