He was born in Winfield Kansas and moved to Los Angeles in 1927. He joined the telephone company after graduation from Southwestern College in Kansas, In 1942 he moved to San Diego when he was assigned as telephone office manager in National City. In 1952 he took over the Chula Vista exchange and in November, 1960, was appointed district commercial manager in San Diego.
He was a director of the San Diego YMCA, president of the Chula Vista Rotary Club in 1956 and 1957, a member of the former United Fund board and a member of the San Diego Chamber of Commerce's Committee on Salt Water Conversion.
He was married to Maurine Elizabeth Philpott Adams and they had two children, Don LaVelle Adams and Karen Christine Adams Hunter.
