Born and raised in Bedford, Virginia she later made her residence in Concord, Virginia.
Mom owned and operated Elsie's Beauty Salon on Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg until she was 82 years old. Known as the "Mayor" of Rivermont she said she knew she wanted to do hair from the time she held a comb. Mom was well cared for by those in her block and everyone kept a careful watch over her in her later years. Great stories have been of her many antics and her generous, carefree spirit.
Mom is survived by not only her three children but her beloved grandchildren, Michael (Ashley), Ashley (Joey), and Jason (Shauna) Walker who are Charlene's sons; J. T Davis (Carolyn) who is Warren's son, and by granddaughters, Sandra (Jeff) Housdan, Macie Davis, and Wendy who are Bedford's daughters. She also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. Mom is also survived by sisters, Rachel H. Parker and Lucille H. Boggess.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, T J Davis; her brothers, Bedford Hoback, Raymond Hoback, and Cecil Hoback; sister, Mabel H. Phelps, and grandson, Bedford Davis, Jr. Her parents were John S. and Macie R. Hoback of Bedford, Virginia.
A celebration of mom's life will be conducted by family and friends at her childhood church, Centerpoint United Methodist in Bedford on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 11AM with burial following at Virginia Memorial Park. If you wish to speak, please be prepared to do so.
Visitation will take place Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at Burch Messier Funeral Home (Main Street Location) 317 West Main Street, Bedford, VA.
