"The angel of death has again entered our community and has taken one from our number in the name of August Barbaud, who after a few weeks of suffering yielded to the summons of his creator, March 25, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 5 days. August Barbaud was born in France in 1828. He started for the United States on the 12th day of October in 1854, and came to New Orleans the first week in December, then going on, arrived at St. Louis on Christmas Day. He then started west and came to the Meramec River when snow and ice were on the ground, breaking the ice of the river, he waded across and went to Richwoods, Washington County, where he resided for many years. He then moved to Rye Creek, Franklin County, where he resided until his death. He leaves to mourn him a wife, six children and fourteen grandchildren. The children's names are: Lenn Barbaud, Mrs. Louis Gorg, Mrs. Alfred Hinson, Mrs. August Bardot and Misses Jennie and Cora Barbaud. Four children preceded him to the grave. He had a genial disposition and displayed much interest in his home and was always ready to lend a hand to the needy. Mr. Barbaud was known everywhere as a good man, one on whom all men could rely. As a father and husband, he was earnest, faithful and true. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the family residence and the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery on Rye Creek. The bereaved have our sympathy."
