Died, at her daughter,s Mrs. A. W. Harmony, (near her old home) September 27th, 1888, of paralysis of the heart, aged 70 years, 8 months and 8 days. For a year previous to her death her health had given away, and became so feeble she gave up house keeping and moved to her daughter's to live, who spared no pains in trying to make her mothers last days her best, ,and who was devoted to her in every attention to the last. She was honored and beloved by a wide circle of friends and was so highly esteemed as one of the old settlers that the principal business house of Gonzales closed doors while her corpse was passing through town, and most of them attended her burial. Her parents, John and Millie King, moved to Texas in 1829. She was born in Mississippi on January 19, 1818, and moved with her parents to Tennessee when but a child. She was married in 1834 to Benjamin Fuqua, who lived something over a year and died, leaving her with one daughter. She was married again in 1838 to W. A. Matthews and to them were born seven children. After his death she married R.C. Pullen in 1861, who survives her. Her father and brother participated in the Mexican war, and her brother was one of the valiant heroes of the Alamo. She joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church in 1850, and lived a consistent Christian life during the remainder of her days. In 1887 she joined the Baptist church at Gonzales, and was baptised by Dr. J. L. Lloyd. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a sincere friends. Everyone who knew her loved her. A husband and five children survive her, two sons and three daughters. Her sleep is with Jesus; her memory is with those who mourn for her, and it is unceasingly fragrant.
"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord," and "Blessed are the pur in heart, for they shall see God."
