Ruhamah Chapline Thompson was one of the eleven* children of Sharpsburg, Md. founder Joseph Chapline and his wife Ruhama Williams Chapline. She married Capt. Alexander Thompson on 12 Sept. 1785.

Alexander Thompson died in 1815. In 1889 the bodies of Alexander Thompson and his parents were removed from their original burial place, at the Chapline Farm outside of Sharpsburg in Washington County, Md., by John P. Smith and Henry Burgan (the first superintendent of Mountain View Cemetery). They now rest at Mountain View.

In April 1893 a great-great niece of Joseph Chapline, Maria J. Liggett Dare, had the remains of the other Chapline family members buried at the Chapline Farm Cemetery moved to Mountain View. Her mother, Louvisa Chapline Liggett, paid for the monument which marks the graves of Joseph Chapline and his wife and some of their children. Along with Joseph Chapline and his wife Ruhama Williams Chapline, the monument lists: Ruhama Chapline, Born 1752; Jeremiah Chapline, Born 1756, Died 1809; William Williams Chapline, Born 1742, Died 1803; Debora Chapline, Born 1746, Died 1797; and James Chapline, Born 1750. As only five of eleven children are listed it is presumed they are buried at Mountain View Cemetery.

However, Franklin County, Ohio, Probate Records show Will Book B, Pages 33-34 and the text of Ruhama Thompson's Will and Probate comments. This will was recorded 4 Oct 1836 and probated March 1837. The will is simple, leaving all her possessions to her daughters, Sarah Armstrong and Mary Lacy Shepherd and naming Robert Armstrong (presumably Sarah's husband) as executor. Sarah and Mary Lacy both lived in Franklin County, Ohio at that time.

THE COLUMBUS CITY GRAVEYARDS by Donald M. Schlegel, (Columbus: Columbus History Service, 1985) lists R. C. THOMPSON as having been originally buried at North Cemetery and removed to Green Lawn Cemetery in 1875 along with Revolutionary War veteran Col. John Thompson who died Apr. 17, 1834 at the residence of Mr. Robert Armstrong in this city, at age 84. John Thompson was Ruhama Chapline Thompson's brother-in-law and Robert Armstrong was her son-in-law.

Although records show that Ruhama Chapline Thompson is not buried at Mountain View I am leaving this information as an aid to Chapline and Thompson family researchers. SEE MEMORIAL ID 192970685 Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.
