US Army Medical Corp. He served during the Civil War as a surgeon. Dr. Bache was a great, great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin, nephew of Vice President George M. Dallas, also nephew of the wife of Chief Admiral Porter, and of Mrs. Walker, wife of Robert J. Walker, Secretary of the Treasury under President Polk.
