Funeral services for Clara Rose Messer, age 75, of rural Staples, Minnesota were held on October 15 at Faith United Church of Christ in Bertha with Pastor Evalyn Carlson officiating. She died on October 12, 1990 at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Clara was born On November 21, 1914 to August and Anna (Milhan) Kliem in Cresco, Iowa. As a small child she moved with her family to Minnesota where she was raised on a farm in Moran Township.
Clara and Lewis John Messer were united in marriage on June 12, 1936 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. They moved to their present farm seven miles east of Bertha. She worked out as a cook at a café in Staples. Clara raised her family and led a very active farm life. She loved her animals and enjoyed her life on the farm.
She enjoyed cooking, baking gardening in her younger years. She loved to dance, sing and get her family together on holidays for dinner. She also loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and really enjoyed them.
Survivors include sons LeRoy Messer of Bertha and Curtis Messer of Verndale; daughters Connie Suchy of Hewitt; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Roy Kliem of Carrington, North Dakota and Arnold Kliem of Spokane, Washington; sisters; Theresa Schultz of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Mable Palava of Staples; Lydia Judd of Staples; and Edith Timm of Springfield, all of Minnesota.
Preceding her in death were her husband Lewis on January 14, 1990; parents; and brothers; Leo, Raymond and Ralph Kliem.
Pallbearers were Randy Messer, Mitchell Messer, Bryan Suchy, Nick Messey, Craig Messer, and Jim Teplry. Honorary pallbearers were Reinhold Dobs, Bob Dobs, Roy Reed, Roger Paulson, Wesley Messer, and Lloyd Draka.
Interment was in Moran Methodist Cemetery in Germania Township, rural Bertha, Minnesota.
