James R. (Jim) Mathis, 82, died December 9, 2004. Jim was born November 14, 1922 in Iola, Kansas to Addison and Eva (Dice) Mathis. He married Ann Louise Coats on August 2, 1952. Ann preceded him in death in 1992. Jim was a 1940 graduate of University High School in West Los Angeles. During World War II, he served in the Army Medical Corps. He graduated from UCLA in 1948. His days on the beaches of Southern California were the highlight of his life. He worked for Time Life & Fortune for 4 years, then as a pharmaceutical salesman with Riker 3M for 31 years. He was known and loved for his dry sense of humor and genuine interest in people. Jim is survived by his son Jeffrey Mathis, daughter Corinne Strat, grandchildren Hilary and Jonathan Strat, and sisters Marjorie Philo and Maxine Chamberlain. Family visitation will be Monday, December 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. The funeral service will be Tuesday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Lung Association. MERCER-ADAMS
