Theodore "Dutch" Bement built his home in Waubun, MN in 1906 and resided there the rest of his life. He was active in the community and held several public offices. He was one of the 27 petitioners to incorporate the village, election judge for the first election, and one of the first village trustees. In 1906 he and his brother William built a livery stable on the west side of town, just north of where Bement's station was in 1982. He dropped out of this business when the stable burned in 1909. In 1908 he was issued a license to sell intoxicating liquors. His saloon was one of two raided by Pussyfoot Johnson in 1911. Because Bement's Saloon was at the top of a hill, the liquor ran both north and south. (Chippewa Rising Sun, Waubun, MN, 1960, p. 8) In 1910 he was listed as a laborer, did odd jobs, and was with a hay building company in 1920. He married Susan "Suzie" Buschette, of German parents.
