"Lenora Fern McBride Smith Thomas June 14, 2012

Lenora, known as Nora, passed away on June 14, 2012 in Benson, Ariz. at the age of 92. Born in Glenbar, Ariz., Feb. 24, 1920, to Peter Howard McBride Jr. and Elsie Elizabeth Craig, she was the 10th of 12 surviving children. She received her high school diploma from Gila Academy (now Eastern Arizona College) in Thatcher, Ariz. and shortly after married Harold Smith in 1938 from which three children were born - Sylvia, Jim and Steve.

In Safford she did alterations for Bellman's Department Store, was manager of the old Safford Inn Hospital and later worked as a secretary at Eastern Arizona Junior College. In 1971, she married Russell Thomas and moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked as secretary to the assistant administrator at University Medical Center.

After Russ passed away, she moved to Las Cruces, N.M., where her son, Steve, resided. Nora came to live in Benson in 2005 to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Cecil Richardson.

Nora was an avid and excellent quilt maker, having made well over 100 quilts for children, grandchildren, and friends, and an expert seamstress. A special hobby was collecting old bottles found in dumpsites of yesteryear, cleaning them and then leaving them in the sun to turn lavender and blue-green.

Nora was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in the Primary and Relief Society and sang in many choirs. She is survived by one sister, Elaine Mattice, of Phoenix, Ariz., a daughter, Sylvia (Cecil) Richardson of Benson, Ariz., two sons, James Arthur Smith (Linda Kay), of Alpine, Utah, Steven Harold Smith (Taffy), of Pleasant Grove, Utah, 22 grandchildren, 71 great- grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 19, at 11 a.m., with a visitation at 10 a.m. at the St. David Stake Center on Pomerene Road. Burial followed at the Cochise Gardens of Rest in Benson."
