Jess and Ray both worked for Raymond "Doc" Rowley in the Civilian Conservation Core or as it was known the 3 C's. This was during the depression years and jobs were hard to come by. The Rowley family had an endless supply of young men from the 3 C's. They kept a big room over the garage with cots made up for any of the "boys" that were lucky enough to get time off and came into town. One of the boys turned out to be Veris's husband, Raymond McBride, who worked for Doc until he went away to the University of Montana. Even after they were married, Jess & Louise and Veris & Raymond spent a lot of time with us on the mountain in the summer times.
He lived on a ranch in Roy, New Mexico running the Waggoner Ranch at Mosquero.
