Roger D. Birtcil, 70, of Lorton, Va., died Friday, July 11, 2008.

Born May 30, 1938, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Allen N. and Aldine Hall Birtcil. Roger graduated in 1956 from Keystone High School in Knox. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1961. He was employed by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company from 1961 until 1977, when he opened his own retail sales and service
electronics store. Upon retiring in 1996, Roger enjoyed fixing electronic gadgets in his workshop.
Roger is survived by two nieces, Deb Young and Tammy Sharpe (Jim); five nephews, Bob Birtcil (Terry), Jack Birtcil, Tom Birtcil (Kathy), Tim Birtcil (Shelli) and Ted Birtcil (Pam); 20 great-nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great-nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Birtcil; a brother, Robert H. Birtcil, Sr.; a great-niece, Ashley Birtcil; and a great-great-nephew, Joshua Stephenson. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Knox Union Cemetery. The David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox is in charge of arrangements.
