Charles Edward Goulder was born the son of David Alexander Goulder (Sr.) and Isabella McCleod Goulder in 1889 in Michigan. Both David and Isabella were immigrants from England and France/Nova Scotia, respectively and entered America through Canada.
Charles was the 5th of 6 children - Mary (1876), Anna (1878), David Jr. (1883), Rufus (1885), Charles (1889) and John (1894).
He married Mary Louise Pasno on June 1, 1907 in Cornell, Michigan at the age of 22. They had 3 children - Charles Jr. (1908), Margaret Isabel (1911), and John Cloud (1912). Their divorce was final on March 21, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan - at which point Louise had 1 minor child, John (age 15), left at home.
Charles was involved with Eunice Godfrey (of Wisconsin) and they had 3 children as well - Emma May (1923), Edward Charles (Jan. 1924) and Elmer Robert (Jan. 1927) - all prior to the divorce from Louise being made final in March 1927.
Charles, Eunice and their 3 children moved to Oak Cliff south of Dallas, TX in April 1929 where Charles was employed with Fairbanks, Morse & Company as a scale engineer.
Eunice was apparently pregnant with their 4th child when they moved. Peggy Gene was born July 16, 1929 in Dallas but died 6 weeks later on September 5, 1929 of a congenital heart defect and was buried in Oak Cliff Cemetery.
On Monday, October 22, 1929, Eunice took the car to pickup Charles after work (2nd shift) and on the way home, the car hit the bridge rail on the Oak Cliff viaduct and went off the bridge to the Trinity River bottom below - they were both thrown from the car. Eunice died shortly after reaching the hospital and Charles survived 24 hours.
This happened six weeks after Peggy Gene's death. The 3 children left at home asleep with a neighbor (Emma Mae - age 6, Edward Charles - age 4, and Elmer Robert - age 2) were now without parents. Charles and Eunice were buried in separate coffins in a single grave in the Oak Cliff Cemetery near their infant daughter, Peggy Gene (Section New 2 DW Lot 3 - the grave markers apparently disappeared in 1950s).
The children (Emma, Ed and Elmer) were made wards of the state of Texas and placed in the IOOF Orphans home in Corsicana, TX - as the state was unable to identify family members who were willing to take the children into their care. The children lived in the orphanage until they reached adulthood.
