Bernard ALTROGGE , Sr.

Arrived in America from Bremen in 1834 on the ship "America"; a rough voyage taking 49 days. Arrived in New York, went then to Newark and Philadelphia to pick up supplies, and then they settled in Lancaster Co, PA, and moved in August 1836 to the Conewago area. By 1838 they were in McSherrystown, living in a Mr. Hickey's house near the Mill owned by David Gittisaw. By 1842, Bernard was working in Irishtown, in Jenkins Mill. He was a baker and distiller.
His wife was Anna Maria KAUP, and they had 11 children born to them.
