Mother: Anna Maria Kaup ABT 1810
From "Dennis W. Brandt": "My research focus is Bernhard Altrogge's Civil War regiment, the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry, but I am always looking for personal accounts. Here is what I know about him: Altrogge, Bernhard, Pvt Co I; mustered Oct 31, 1861; wounded at the battle of Cold Harbor June 1, 1864; once charged $.07 for losing his cartridge box belt plate "through carelessness"; discharged Oct 13, 1864; born May 6, 1842, the son of Bernhard & Anna Mary Kaup Altrogge; siblings: William, Anthony, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna M., John, Francis, Henry, and Adolphus; brother-in-law to 87th comrade William G. Small (Catherine's husband); the 1860 census does not list him as living with his mother; a farmer from Oxford Township; died Feb 12, 1872; buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania; name was probably pronounced "Al-trog-ee" based on the phonetic spelling of the name in the 1860 census for another Altrogge."
