Nancy "Nannie" Bailey was the daughter of notorious abolitionist, Republican newspaperman, William Shreve Bailey and his wife Caroline Withnall.

Nannie was married 28 Jan 1857 in Newport, Campbell, KY to Col. William H Bronson, son of Jacob & Nancy Hollyman Bronston of Lexington, Fayette, KY. She was his 2nd wife. He was an abolitionist and a Republican like her father. Wm & Nannie moved to Kansas before the Civil War.

They were the parents of two children:

1) Charles Sumner Bronston 1858-1929, husband of 1. Matilda Jane Tunnell [3 children], 2. Annie Perryman [2 children] and 3. Lettie Herman [7 children].

2) Caroline Ann "Carrie" Bronston 1867-1899 wife of Arlie Almont Bailey [2 children].

Nannie was widely lauded in 1893 and 1894 as a career woman - a newspaper compositor (typsetter). It was not the first time her skills had been praised in print:

The Right Kind of Pluck (Garnett Journal)
Mrs. W. H. Bronston, who has been home a month from duties as compositor in the Leavenworth Times office, went back to work last Thursday. She is among the most rapid type setters in the State, and has succeeded in wiping out the mortgage on the farm, and preparing a cozy town residence for her family in this city. This kind of pluck requires, and should command the very highest commendation.
