ANDERSON LARS"LEWIS" MARTIN
November 13, 1840 to December 6, 1888

Yesterday we laid to rest in the York Church Cemetery (the new one) one of our best and most respected citizens, L.M. Anderson is no more. After a month's severe illness he passed quietly away, December 6, having only a short time ago passed his 48th birthday. Thus is a man of usefulness cut off in the prime of life. Mr. Anderson had been sorely afflicted the last three or four years, having lost his eye sight and being otherwise afflicted with disease but only the last month of his life was it seen that the end was drawing nigh. Mr. Anderson took a prominent part in all affairs belonging to the town and county and held the more important town offices continually until stricken down by disease. He was a wise counselor and steadfast friend. Nearly thirty years ago he started for himself in a small way, but by indefatigable industry, economy and untiring labor he had accumulated enough of is world's goods to have permitted him to live in comfort the rest of his days; but providence ruled otherwise. Mr. Anderson was a native of Ringerlge, in Norway, but came to this country when only 11 years old. As was the case with many more in those days, his early days were spent without the advantage of schooling, but in spite of that he laid up, by self study a fund of knowledge that any man might be proud of. Almost unaided he fitted himself for a teacher, which profession he followed for many years. That he keenly missed the advantage of schooling is shown in the fact that he has striven to give his children a thorough education. The eldest, John D., is a young lawyer located in Merrill, and the next, Andrew W., is now studying law at the State University, this only daughter, Miss Lena B., and son Charles M., are teaching. He leaves a widow and seven children all of whom were present at the funeral
