Glen Hyrum Smith, 88, joined his devoted, eternal companion in the early evening hours of May 15, 2009. He spent his last hours with his children at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Glen was born April 7, 1921 in Georgetown, the seventh child of Wells Harrison and Florence Barkdull Smith.

Glen received his childhood education in Georgetown. His classrooms also included the Smith summer home up 3-mile, and the surrounding canyons and streams of the Bear Lake area.

Glen entered the work force early in life on the Clausen Ranch in Nounan were he furthered the ranching education he would later use on a ranch of his own in Pescadero. He worked as a fireman for the railroad until leaving for the army in 1942. After returning from the army, Glen drove the mild truck for the Bear Lake Co-op Creamery, picking up mild from the dairy farms in the Bar Lake area. He traded in his mild route for a drive to Monsanto, where he worked until his retirement in 1980.

He met and fell in love with the girl from across the river, GeNiel Kunz. They were married on July 21, 1942 where they were sealed for eternity in the Logan Temple.

Glen is survived by his children, Joyce (Daryl) Woolstenhulme, Montpelier, DeLone (Roger) Hayes, Magna, Utah, Darrel Glen (RaNge) Smith, Sandy, Utah and Ralph Wells (RaNge) Smith, Montpelier; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and brothers, Howard and Donald Smith.

He will be welcomed by his devoted wife, infant twin daughters, Fay and May, a granddaughter, parents and brothers and sisters, Ralph, Mildred, Merle, DeNice, Lynn, Sherman, Arlene, Lee and Velda.

The family appreciates the love and patience given by the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Bear Lake Manor and Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, May 19, at the Montpelier Second Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Bern Cemetery.
