William Joe Amos Jr., 63, of Carbon, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, in McAlester. Born Aug. 13, 1948, in Talihina, he was the son of William J. Sr. and Josephine (Cockerhan) Amos. He grew up in the Carbon area, where he had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Hartshorne High School. He worked as a long haul truck driver for many years as an independent driver and was also a member of the Teamsters Union. He served in the United States Army, the National Guard and then the U.S. Navy for a total of about eight years of military service. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He had attended the Lord's Calvary Bible Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Col. Tray and Tammi Ardese, of Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie Ketcherside and her husband, Tommy Getchell, of McAlester, and Stefany Higgs and her husband, Brandon, of McAlester; and mother, Josephine Amos, of Hartshorne. Also, stepchildren, Bret Ardese and Joleta Ardese, of McAlester; 15 grandchildren, Amanda Harrell and her husband, Jason, Justin Ardese, Ethan Ardese, Brock Ardese, Tyler Ardese, Ilissa Smith and her husband, Brent, Wade Nave, Bryce Davidson, Will Ardese, Cahner Ardese, Tegan Ardese, Gabe Lusk, Colby Lusk, Samantha Higgs and Madilyn Higgs. And, one sister, Rachel Amos and partner, Kenny Cooley, of Dow; a special niece, Josette Pingleton and her husband, Rick, of Hartshorne, and their children, Dillon and Jada, and a special friend, Raylene Ardese, of Krebs. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Brumley-Mills Chapel with Colonel Tray Ardese officiating. Burial will be at Bache-Red Oak Cemetery. Military honors will follow provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098 of McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Tommy Getchell, Eddie Wilson, Wade Nave, Justin Ardese, Ricky Pingleton and Ethan Ardese. Honorary pallbearers will be William Winningham, Dillon Pingleton, Paul Ford, Lee Grigsby and Kenny Cooley. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans or the Lord's Calvary Bible Church.
