Richard James "Dick" Belka, 68, of Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Frazee, Minn., passed away unexpectedly on June 20 at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D., with his family at his side.

Dick was born March 9, 1944, in Perham, to Clem and Dorothy (Cole) Belka. He grew up in Perham and graduated from Perham High School with the class of 1962. Following his schooling, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country from 1962 until his retirement in 1982. During his service he spent time in Vietnam, Korea, Puerto Rico and the Philippines, among other places. Dick was united in marriage to Barb Parker in Perham in 1964. The couple made their home in Perham and was blessed with three sons. After retiring from the Air Force, the family moved to Illinois where Dick taught telecommunication technology at a local college. Dick and Barb then returned to Minnesota where they resided in Frazee.

Dick's life was saddened by the passing of his wife, Barb, in 1999. Dick remained in Frazee where he worked for Arvig Communication until his retirement in 2008. He was united in marriage to Denise "Dee" Olson on Sept. 2, 2000. Dick was blessed with the addition of Dee's daughter, LeAnn, to the family. After retirement, Dick and Dee made their home in Moorhead, where Dick resided until the time of his death.

Dick and Dee enjoyed traveling in their camper and playing a good game of bocce ball, or a good card game. Dick also found great joy in giving back to the community. He was very involved in several organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Heart of Lakes VFW Post in Frazee, the American Legion, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead, 4 Love of Dogs and was a Cooties member. He was passionate about donating to the animal shelter, several Catholic organizations and the Dorothy Day House. He also made hats and scarves to be handed out to those in need, and also made hats for newborns at hospitals.

The last, very special gift he gave was the gift of sight that he donated following his passing.

Dick had a special friend in his Chihuahua, Jori. He was a loving husband, father, great grandfather, brother and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Dick is survived by his wife, Dee of Moorhead; three sons, Duane (Lynn) Belka of Carmi, Ill., Roger (Donna) Belka of Bone Gap, Ill., and Scott Belka of Noble, Ill.; stepdaughter, LeAnn (Robert) Baukol of San Diego; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen (Bill) Huebsch of Osage, Iowa and Sherry (Neil) Tobkin of Willmar, Minn.; two brothers, Darrell (Shirley) Belka of Glyndon, Minn., and George (Judy) Belka of Dilworth, Minn.; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barb; and two sisters, Carol and Jacqueline Belka.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on June 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee. Interment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Furey Funeral Home handled the arrangements. To leave online condolences, visit www.fureyfh
