Lt. Colonel Donald L. Cooke (USAF Ret), Our dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on August 2, 2004 at the Care Source Hospice Center in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born on March 2, 1925, in Magna, Utah, to Charles Howard and Vera Wadsworth Cooke. Donald married his eternal companion Vera Mae Shupe, on June 28, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died February 14, 2004. Lt. Col. Cooke began his military career in March 1943 as a member of the Army Air Corp. He served in a lead aircraft as Bombardier and Navigator and flew 10 missions before the war ended in April 1945. He was awarded the Air Medal for his service in World War II, eventually retiring from Hill AFB and later Thiokol. After retirement Don and Vera traveled extensively, ending up in Star Valley, WY. They cherished their dear friends and were amazed by the outpouring of love. Donald is survived by two daughters and one son: Jodyane Cook; Danette (Sterling) Poulson; Don Charles (Mary) Cook; and eight grandchildren; Cody R. Casey (Tiffany), Preston D. Casey (Amber), Kyle J. Vanderstappen, Kole R. Jonaway (Jessy), Kreg R. Cook, Brian Poulson, Rochelle Poulson, Jessica Poulson, and four great-grand-children. Donald is also survived by two brothers and one sister: V. LaMar Cooke (Eileen), Alton L. Cooke (Marion), and V. Arlene (Vern) Hayes. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Floyd Cooke. Funeral services held on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the Hooper 6th Ward Chapel, 4675 W. 5500 S. Internment directly following the service at the Hooper City Cemetery in Hooper, UT.
