Larry ODell Brinlee was born December 3, 1919, in Texas, son of James Lafayette Brinlee and Birdie May Hutton. The 1930 Federal Census for Precinct 3, Texas (Grayson County) shows ODell, a farm laborer, age 10, born in Texas; living with his father, Jimmie L., a farmer, age 45, born in Texas; and his mother Birdie M., age 44, born in Texas. Also living in the household were ODell's siblings: Opal M., a farm laborer, age 21; Ima, a farm laborer, age 19; Woodrow, a farm laborer, age 18; J. B., a farm laborer, age 14; Avis, a farm laborer, age 12; Ray J., age 6; and Rob, age 5; all born in Texas.

Odell served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence (CVL-22), a United States Navy light aircraft carrier, lead ship of her class, during World War II.

ODell died September 18, 1957 in Grayson County, Texas and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Denison, Texas (Grayson County).
