Edwin A. Bender, 92, of Columbus died Monday, January 15, 2001 at the Columbus Manor. Services were 10:30am Thursday, January 18, 2001 at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Fr. Dan Keller officiating. Burial was in the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Mr. Bender was born October 23, 1908 in Cornlea to Henry and Margaret (Rossbach) Bender. He received his eduation at Sacred Heart Parochial School in Cornlea. He married Lucille M. Fischer on January 25, 1943 in North Carolina. He worked on the family farm farm before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 - 1943. Following his military service he returned to work on the family farm. The couple also owned a gas station and bar in Cornlea. In 1966, they moved to Columbus where he worked at Dale Electronics for 6 1/2 years. He was a member of Hartman Post #84 American Legion, V.F.W. Post #3704, Eagles Club, and St. Bonaventure Church. Edwin was an avid card player and fisherman.
