Born in Avalon community of Franklin County, he was a son of the late Dr. William Lowery and Mattie Lena Cooper McBath. He was an alumnus of Young Harris College, the last living World War I veteran in Stephens County, was a member of Toccoa American Legion Post for 46 years and was a member of Confidence United Methodist Church. He was former postmaster of Avalon and Tournapull post offices.
Surviving are daughter, Mary (Mrs. Gilbert) Ferber of Silver Spring, MD and son, Fred McBath of Silver Spring, MD.
Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Confidence United Methodist Church by Rev. Jack Lamb and Rev. Ryan Seawright. Burial was in the church cemetery.
