Mrs. Icye Stovall was born on April 1, 1926, to Rev. Alexander Conner and Mrs. Icy Conner in Macon, Mississippi.
She confessed faith in Christ at the age of 10 and joined Pilgrim Rest M. B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ross Joiner in Macon, Mississippi.
Later, she moved to Greenville, Mississippi, and in 1945 joined First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. W. Williams where she remained a faithful member until her departure to be with the Lord.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Wilbert Stovall on December 24, 1944, and to this union were born two children.
Icye attended Union Grove Elementary School, Saint Industrial High School, in Lexington, Mississippi, and Mary High School in Jackson, Tennessee. She received a B.S. Degree in Elementary education from Mississippi Valley State University and did further studies at Delta State University. Her teaching career spanned over a period of 39 1/2 years with retirement at Leland Elementary School, Leland, Mississippi.
She went to her Eternal Rest with the Lord on September 9, 1989, at 10:00 p.m. at Delta Medical Center, Greenville, Mississippi.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Mr. Wilbert Stovall, Greenville, Mississippi; two daughters, Mrs. Irma J. Hardia, Glenwood, Illinois, and Mrs. Barbara A. Grace, Greenville, Mississippi; her mother, Mrs. Icy Conner, Belzoni, Mississippi; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Griffin, Harlem, Illinois and Mrs. Fannie Bell Webb, Beloit, Wisconsin; one brother, Mr. Alexander Conner, Jr., Chicago, Illinois; one Goddaughter, Ms. Rita Threadgill, Greenville, Mississippi, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
