Carrie Queenora Griffin affectionately called "Queen" by family and friends, was born in Noxubee County, Macon, MS; on September 30, 1924, to parents Rev. Alexander Conner, Sr. and Icy Dismukes.

The Family later relocated to the Mississippi Delta where Carrie attended school at Pilgrim Rest Elementary in Isola, MS; (a country church school).

The family later moved to Deovelente, MS; where Carrie helped with many household chores. The first high school she attended was Merry Saints Industrial School in Lexington, MS; and she completed her high school education at Marry High School in Jackson, TN.

After Carrie graduated from high school she became an assistant elementary school teacher. Several years later she moved to Chicago, IL; and married Harvey Griffin on Valentine's Day of February 1946. (Harvey preceded her in death in July 1986); to this union, four children were born, Henry, Evelyn Louise, Joanne, and Sheila.

Carrie's life was one of achievement, hard work, motivation, and being industrious. Carrie's accomplishments included serving as an officer in the Peace and Goodwill Christian Club.

She helped organize and served office on the 7600 Union Block Club, She went back to school at Kennedy-King College while being a housewife and mother and completed the teacher assistant program.

Carrie also exercised her artistic and creative talent by being in several plays, the "passion play" on Easter Sundays at McCormick Place, and many productions by Chicago Playwright Rev. Spencer Jackson. Her love for gospel singing lead her to join various church choirs and gospel quartets.

Carrie devoted herself to serving on committees for family reunions not only in Illinois but other states. Carrie was active in political campaigns and voter registration.

Carrie retired from the Chicago Public School System as a teacher assistant. Though retired, Carrie did not slow down. She joined the Eastern Stars where she rapidly progressed and was elected WORTHY MATRON of Sarah C. Brown Chapter 124.

Carrie continued taking classes of higher learning. She studied theology at Moody Bible Institute. She took classes of higher learning in financial planning, business, entrepreneurship, healthcare (massage & herbology), nutrition, sewing, crafts, yoga, and eastern religion philosophy.

Throughout Carrie's life, she always maintained active membership and participation in church and various spiritual communities. Most recently; her memberships included Covenant United Church of Christ in South Holland, IL; and Antioch Church of God in Denver, CO; where she relocated and spent the last four years of her life.

Carrie was often described as "spunky" "bubbly", strong-willed, vibrant, full of life, fun-loving, giving, and generous.

She is survived by four children, Henry Griffin (Lynn), Fredricksburg, VA; Evelyn Gordon (Foley) Denver, CO; Joanne Patton (Greg deceased 1991), Chicago, IL; and Sheila Griffin, Houston, TX; a beloved niece Clara McGee Griffin, who she help rear. Sisters, Icye Stovall (deceased 1989), Fannie Bell Webb, Beloit, WI; Idell Holman, Houston, MS; brothers, Alexander Conner, Jr., Deovelente, MS; Franklin Watson, Miami, FL; aunts, Matilda Brown, Indianola, MS; Zenna Bell Dismukes, Jackson, MS; sister-in-law, Alyce Griffin Clarke, Jackson, MS; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and goddaughter, Linda Harris, Chicago, IL.
