Joseph Dale Ahlberg died June 21, 2012. He was born October 16, 1927 to Nils Joseph Ahlberg and Lillie Johnson Ahlberg. He married Sina Lucille Bunting on December 14, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His father died five months prior to his birth. His mother was a widow for 56 years.
Dale graduated from Murray High School in 1945 and played on the football team. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-46. Dale served an LDS Mission in the Northwestern States in 1951-52, financed by Sina immediately following their marriage.
Dale graduated from Westminster, the U of U, and BYU. He served as a teacher for four years in the Murray School District and seven years in the Jordan School District. Dale served as a principal in the Jordan School District for 24 years at six schools: Crescent, Butler, Peruvian Park, Bell View, Sprucewood, and Midvale. He opened the new Sprucewood School. He served 16 years on the Murray School Board, with three terms as board president.
Dale was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings, including: Bishop, Counselor in the Murray Utah Stake Presidency, and as Murray Utah Stake Patriarch.
Dale was an avid reader and ardent photographer. He never missed a day of writing in his journal.
He is survived by Karen (Thomas) Roberson; Joseph (Rebecca) Ahlberg; Mark (Carla) Ahlberg; Sheryl (Scott) Healy; Julie (Mark) Babcock; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Laura (Frank) Johnson, Maurine (Ray) Davies, and daughter-in-law Sylvia (Joseph) Ahlberg.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., Murray, UT. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Murray 24th Ward building, 755 E. Three Fountains Dr., Murray, UT, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45.
