Veteran Civil War, Private, Company B, 26th VA Infantry Regiment; enlisted 1861, separated 10 May 1865. Age 83 yr 10 mo 24 da. Son of Sallie Thomas. Married Lucinda Jane Sheppard on 19 Aug 1869 in Monroe County WV. After Lucinda's death, as a widower he married Martha Austin Mills Thomas Baker on Oct 2, 1895.

Cornelius C Thomas, a Confederate veteran, died on Saturday, Oct 28, 1922, at the home of his son, Dana Thomas, in North Alderson, of Bright's disease and heart failure. He was born on January 4, 1842 and fr many years had lived on Muddy Creek Mountain. He was a member of the Baptist Church and is survived by his second wife and several grown children. They are Mrs M C Burns, of Muddy Creek Mountain; Mrs Leslie Baker, of Snowflake; Mrs Jane Holcomb and Dana Thomas, of Alderson and Mrs Joseph Martin of Fort Spring. Revs Herold and Neel conducted funeral services on Monday following and interment was in the Fry graveyard.
