ANOTHER OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY
John George Baer was born at Cumberland, Maryland Sept. 26, 1848 and died Feb. 1, 1921, aged 72 years, 4 months and 5 days.

In 1854 with his parents he moved to Iowa City, Iowa. In 1861 he moved to Dillon, Marshal county, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Jerusha Beem of Chelsea, Iowa, March 22, 1876. To this union were born three children, Margaret, who died in infancy, Anna, who resides at home and G.M. Baer of Sykes, Montana.

His wife and two children, six grandchildren, six sisters and three brothers survive him. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him to the Great Beyond, there being 14 children in his family.

He was only sick a few days. The news of his death came as a shock to his many friends. Saturday he was up and around, Tuesday he was gone.

He was a very kind and indulgent husband and father to his family, loving and doing for them to his fullest strength. He was a fine trustworthy neighbor, one who will be sadly missed by so many in this community where he has resided since 1893.

Funeral services were held in Winnetoon, Sunday, Feb 6, 1921 conducted by Rev. J.A. Hutchins and interment made in the Creighton Cemetery. The pallbearers were Henry Schwartz Sr., Steve Mattern and Pete Richling of Creighton, R.C. Clare, A.W. Crandall and Ernest Klopfer of Winnetoon.

In 1893, father, mother, my brother, George Melvin and I migrated from Marshalltown, Iowa to a farm a mile south of Winnetoon, Nebrska, then a small general store and a platform where the depot now stands. Mother's brother, W.H. Beem, lived just across the road from us.
