U.S. Navy

On June 12, 2011, a golden heart stopped beating, Gurney G. "Buck" Ashby passed away with his loving family surrounding him at Randolph Hospice House.
Buck Ashby was born to the late Jessie James and Lora Mabe Ashby on October 3, 1927 in High Point, NC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond and Stanley Ashby and infant brother Malcolm; two sisters, Dora Rook and Lillian Bullington; three sons, Larry, Barry, and Ray Ashby; great granddaughter Anistyn Babcock, who were all waiting on his arrival to heaven and we are sure it was a joyful reunion and he is at peace. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 30 years. He received many honors in the Navy and was respected by all that served under and above him. He went from white hat to Warrant Officer 3, though his years of service, which gave him a lot of pride in those accomplishments.
On June 3, 1950 He was united in marriage to Shirley Geneva Fulk and from that union he was graced with six children whom he was devoted to. He enjoyed Baseball, Nascar Racing. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren where his greatest joy in life. He was always putting them first in everything he did. He will be greatly missed by all of them.
He is survived by his three loving daughters, Sherry Babcock and husband Don of Cape Girardeau, MO, Sonya Rice and husband Paul of Westminster, CA, and Robin Evans and husband Greg of Siler City, NC; daughter in law Delores Ashby of Greensboro; grandchildren Lora and Travis Stalford, Diane Penna, Matthew and Roselle Ashby, Joshua and Crystal Ashby, Wesley Malone, Vanessa Babcock, Alaura Rice, Barry Ashby, Garrett Rice; great grandchildren Hunter and Colton Stalford, Andie and Sophia Penna, Olivia Ashby.
Funeral service were held 2 pm, Thursday, June 16th in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Derwin Tuten officiating. Interment followed at Guilford Memorial Park with full military honors. The family received friends Wednesday, from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
