MATTOON - Roger Clinton Abbott, 67, of Mattoon, passed away at 8:49 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2nd, at the Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. this (Thursday) evening at the funeral home. Roger was born April 12, 1941, in Mattoon, a son of Lloyd Glenn and Lula (Gullion) Abbott. He married Lois M. Ruland on December 28, 1964. Survivors include his loving wife, Lois M. Abbott of Mattoon; his daughter, Mary E. Degironne and husband Chuck of Mattoon; four brothers, Robert Abbott and wife Mary, Albert Abbott and wife Carol, Clark Abbott and wife Jeannette, and Merlyn Abbott and wife Brenda, all of Mattoon; two sisters, Eva Closson and husband Rex of North Carolina and Glenda Webster and husband Mike of Mattoon; sister-in-law, Sandy Abbott of Mattoon; and three grandchildren, Nick Degironne of Mississippi, Ashley DeVore and Alana Degironne, both of Mattoon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lana Jo Powers; and his brother, William Glenn Abbott. Mr. Abbott was the former owner and operator of Roger Abbott Appliance Repair, retiring after thirty years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Roger attended the New Mercy Church. He was an accomplished musician who played in numerous bands over the years and had the unique ability to play any musical instrument by ear. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he also loved riding his Honda Trike. Memorial gifts in his honor are suggested to the New Mercy Church.
