Elizabeth was born in Kautz, Russia, a German settlement along the Volga River. Her family immigrated to the US in 1906 when she was three years old. They first lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, and then moved to Billings in 1908. Elizabeth married Lenard Yost on March 10, 1926, at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Billings. They were the parents of six children, including twin daughters who died soon after birth. See further his biography.

Elizabeth's funeral was held at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Billings on Feb. 1, 1972.
