Mary was born in Kautz, Russia, a German settlement along the Volga River. Her family immigrated to the US in 1906. They first lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, and then moved to Billings in 1908. Mary married George Yost on March 25, 1925, in Billings. They were blessed with four children. See also George's biography.
