Richard Baldwin was the son of David Baldwin and Sarah Tucker of Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Baldwin 9 Jan 1803 in Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts. They migrated to McDonough, Chenango, New York. They had children: David Baldwin born in 1804, Hannah Baldwin born in 1806, Sarah Jane Baldwin born in 1808, Benjamin Baldwin born in 1810, Elizabeth Baldwin born in 1812 and Ruth C. Baldwin born in 1815.

David Baldwin born 9 May 1804 married Julia E. Mathewson 31 Dec 1833 in McDonough, Chenango, New York. They had children: Winsor Baldwin born in 1838, Sarah Jane Darling Baldwin born in 1839, Mary M. Baldwin born in 1842, Amanda Maria Baldwin born in 1845, Daniel Richard Baldwin born in 1847, Lucinda L. Baldwin born in 1850 and Hannah J. Baldwin born in 1853.

Hannah Baldwin born in 1806. She married James Sisson in 1825 in McDonough, Chenango, New York. They had children: Mary Ann Sisson born in 1826, Richard Pardon Sisson born in 1828, Rodman James Sisson born in 1830, Sophronia Hannah Sisson born in 1834 and Sarah Jane Sisson born in 1840.

Ruth C. Baldwin born in 1815. She married Oliver B. Sovereign 7 Dec 1843 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. They had children: John Richard Sovereign born in 1844, Hannah Sovereign born in 1847, Davis Ezra Sovereign born in 1854 and William W. Sovereign born in 1859.

Richard Baldwin along with brothers Daniel, Isaac and Elijah owned and operated a sawmill in McDonough, Chenango, New York. They purchased large tracts of land using the timber for the sawmill and then subdivided and sold some of the land. The town of East McDonough, New York was originally referred to as "The Baldwin Settlement." The Baldwin brothers were instrumental in helping form the town of McDonough, New York. They all held numerous town offices. They all owned large tracts of land and were all also farmers.

Richard Baldwin was Town Agent, Assessor, Surveyor and Commissioner of Highways from 1817 to 1837 for the town of McDonough, Chenango, New York.

For reasons unknown; the Baldwin Brothers moved out of McDonough, Chenango, New York in the mid to late 1830's with the exception of Daniel Baldwin, he died in Oxford, Chenango, New York in 1842. Isaac Baldwin moved back to Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts, Elijah Baldwin moved his family to Athens, Ohio.

Richard Baldwin died from the kick of a horse.
