The town of East McDonough, New York was originally referred to as "The Baldwin Settlement." The Baldwin brothers were instrumental in helping form the town of McDonough, New York. They all held numerous town offices. They all owned large tracts of land and were all also farmers.

Isaac Baldwin moved back to Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts, Elijah Baldwin moved his family to Athens, Ohio.
