ALICE MAYBORN GOCHNEAUR: 87, died unexpectedly on 5 Sep 2006, surrounded in love by her family. Born in Kingsman OH, on New Year's Day of 1919 to the great joy of Claude & Myrtle (Tidd) Mayborn, she graduated from Kent State University with her teaching certificate in 1938. She taught second & third grades in Kinsman, Bristolville & Aurora OH. She further attended Broward College in Ft Lauderdale FL, in 1972-'73, achieving a Travel Executive degree. She worked with Chima Travel in Akron OH & loved her wordly jaunts, traveling extensively. In addition to raising her 4 children, Alice was very involved in community service as a member of the Eastern Star, PTA Council, Teachers Association, Mother's Club & Jaycettes. Her volunteer work included Magazine & Card Chairman, of Broward General Hospital in Ft. LauderdaleFL; served as a secretary of "Heart Hot Line'', North Ridge General Hospital Auxiliary Board & 11 years as liaison secretary in the Oncology department at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Alice was also a Republican Committee Woman for Summit County OH. Other than her family, Alice's passion was her work, beginning in 1978, with the American Business Women's Association; she believed in "Women Supporting Women" & was recognized by the A.B.W.A. as "Woman of the Year" in 1995.
Preceded in death by parents, Claude & Myrtle (Tidd) Mayborn; husband, Vernon; brother, Leolin; daughter, Candace; & great-grandchild-Devlin, Alice is survived by daughter, Sandra (Terry) Grandee-Aurora; sons, Gregg (Deidre) Gochneaur of Louisville TX & Roger (Nancy) Gochneaur-Stow; grandchildren, Russ, Mark, Dawn, Damon & Graham; & gr-grandchildren, Katie, Dan, Brandon, Kenyon, Ryan & Austin.
Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Services will be held Friday morning with Rev Kevin Horak officiating. Burial will be at Chesnut Hill Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to A.B.W.A. AliceM Gochneaur Memorial Scholarship Fund-Akron Chapter.
