Timothy Sr., a resident of Nambé, was predeceased by his parents Edward E. Tapia and Mary Agnes Valdéz-Tapia.

Timothy was survived by his son Timothy "T.J." Anthony Tapia Jr. of Gilbert, Arizona; siblings: Edmund E. Tapia of Pojoaque, Patricia Tapia-Gómez of El Rancho, Christina Terpanick of Colonia, New Jersey, Teresa Day of Phoenix, Arizona and John Tapia of La Puebla; T.J.'s mother Heidi Smith-Evans of Gilbert, Arizona; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Timothy served in the United States Army from 1989 to 1991 and the New Mexico National Guard from 1991 to 1999. He was a 1988 graduate of New Mexico State University. He received a Master's of Business Administration from UNM, Anderson School of Management in 1995.

Cremation has taken place. Public visitation and Rosary were on 19 June 2012 in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial Mass was on 20 June 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambé. Burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to the Timothy A. Tapia, Sr. Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo location.
