Herrold was the first child born to Charles Tilton Stuck (1876-1958) and Julia E. Brumley (1883-1943) who married on 21 Feb. 1900 in La Porte Co., Indiana. I found them on the 1900 Census, newly married, no children, and Charles was making a living as a farmer like his father. The following year, Herrold was born on 4 May 1901. Two years later, they welcomed a second son, Orlando "Oler" Franklin, born on 18 Jan. 1903. Sadly, Herrold died on 4 Aug. 1906. He was only five years old.

Sometime between that time and 1910, Charles and Julia separated. I found Charles on the 1910 Census, married, but without Julia, in La Porte as a "boarder" with Charles and Ida Wingeat, and working as a "helper" in a "foundry". There was a 5-year old child named Leo Stuck with him, who may have been another son. Charles' son Orlando was living with his aunt and uncle, John and Martha Banks in Union in 1910. Martha was mother Julia's older sister. It is unclear where Julia was at that time.
