Mrs. Chirdon was born in Johnstown on Nov. 20, 1942, the daughter of the late Evan and Margaret (Irons) Strick. She was the wife of J. Leo Chirdon, whom she married Feb. 13, 1987.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son William F. Nugent, Newton, N.C.; son Michael D., husband of Debbie Leach Nugent, Rome, Ga.; son Evan T., husband of Karen Breakey Nugent, York; son Terry P., husband of Nancy Griffith Nugent, Buffalo Mills; daughter Kathleen L. (Brett), wife of Greg Vannatter, Pulaski, Tenn.; daughter Tracy L. (Brett) Myers, Pulaski, Tenn.; son Patrick S. Brett, Bedford; son Richard G. Brett, New Paris; and daughter Shannon (Brett), wife of Jimmy Waybright, Bedford.
Wynetta is also survived by 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was one of 12 children, five sisters and six brothers, the closest to her heart being Pam Debrota, Joanne McGill and Margaret Thomas. She also had a special relationship with nieces Mailee, Dusti, Tammi, Kristyn and Pammi.
Mrs. Chirdon, loving wife and mother of nine children, was employed for 15 years by New Enterprise Stone and Lime.
She enjoyed working with her hands. She spent endless hours in the garden; also enjoyed working with wood and making other crafts. She especially enjoyed taking care of the animals on her farm.
A funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, with the Rev. William Fenstermaker officiating. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg.
