"Lewiston Academy was started in 1824. In 1832 David Baker was doing some work upon the building when he was stricken with cholera. Starting for his house in Porter Center, he reched Lower's Corners where he was taken into the Tower house as he was too ill to proceed further. Here he died. Neighbors, fearful of the dread disease, urged an early burial, but Mr. Tower said that Mr. Baker was a respected citizen and deserved a dignified burial. He was buried in the Hosmer Cemetery on the Lake Road." Anna Hayward Merritt, Vol 6 page 37
