Daughter of Michael de Young who co-started the largest San Francisco newspaper. Her father also established the de Young museum, in Golden Gate Park, known the world over. Helen never had children, but was an extremely active socialite doing good causes her entire life. Educated in Europe, she was a wonderful player of the Harp. She had her debut at the family home in San Francisco and was presented at the Court of St. James in London. A lady with perfect manners and well spoken. One of four daughters and a brother. When her husband died he left her close to nine million dollars. Helen had huge financial wealth from her own family. A very wealthy lady. Among her many honors, she was made a member of the French Legion of Honor for her works between France and America. She never had children and died of a heart attack at her estate, Rose Court, a pink stucco chateau in Hillsborough, San Mateo Co., California. Buried in the de Young family mausoleum.
