"Death of J. P. Snapp, Esteemed Citizen

John P. Snapp, 68, died Wednesday evening at 7:00 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. E. A. Davis, in Russellville, following a short illness with pneumonia. The remains were removed to Horton's Funeral Home and prepared for burial.


Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Presbyterian church in Russellville at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Young. Interment will be in Bethesda cemetery.


The deceased is survived by one brother, E. A. Snapp of Russellville; one sister, Mrs. L. W. Brown of this city; one half-brother, Geo. C. Bewley of Rutledge, and two half sisters, Mrs. E. A. Davis of Russellville and Mrs.. R. L. Bewley of this city. Mr. Snapp has been an active member of the Russellville Presbyterian church for a number of years, serving as a deacon.


Mr. Snapp was one of the most popular and highly esteemed citizens of the county. He served as postmaster of Russellville during the Wilson administration, and also served as trustee for Hamblen county at one time. For many years he was the popular and efficient clerk and cashier at Tate Springs hotel. Owing to his genial, polite and kindly manner in dealing with thousands of southern visitors who in years gone by were guests at the famous resort, he had won for himself the esteem of many southern people. His passing will be sincerely regretted by his wide circle of friends here and throughout the south."
