Preston Rollie Smith was the 4th child of 12 children of William Thomas "Tom" Smith and Ann Eliza Mae Willford. He never married. Preston would assist his father in trapping cats (mountain lions, panthers, bobcats and others) for the County of Live Oak and for State of Texas.
Depending on the rarity of the cat, one or both ears were required for payment, which were turn in once a month at the courthouse. The pelts of the cats were used for other means.
