Smashes Car To Save Woman- Frightened By Collision She Jumps Before Auto Guided Over Grade-Both Drivers Hugging Bank Rounding Curve-Machine Is Demolished By Roll To Bottom of Steep Embankment-
In and automobile collision Wednesday afternoon near the top of the Conejo grade fatalities were narrowly avoided and one car was run off the side of the grade and demolished. W S Nuckols and wife of Oakland, were going up the grade in a four passenger car. Two men named Brown and Jones , whose residence could not be ascertained, were coming down the grade. Both were hugging close to the hill side and in rounding a turn they collided. Mrs Nuckols , frightened, jumped from their machine into the road directly in front of the two men after the collision. Brown, who was driving, could not control the car after the smash, and to avoid running down Mrs Nuckols started his car over the edge and jumped. Jones had jumped before. The grade is very steep at the point and the car rolled to the bottom and is very much damaged. Walter Bell of Bell's Garage, Camarillo, was summoned and took the cars to his garage and is repairing them.
