Funeral services for Orval L. Allen, 57, of Nappanee Route 3 will be held at the Lienhart Funeral Home here at 2 p.m. Thursday. He died at Elkhart General Hospital after suffering a heart attack that morning.
Mr. Allen was stricken May 1 with a heart attack at his home, three miles south of Wakarusa, and was hospitalized several months. He had returned to work part time but suffered a recurrence three weeks ago and was hospitalized again.
Born July 5, 1907, at Royal Centre, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Allen. He graduated from the Starr City High School and attended the Metropolitan School of Music in Indianapolis, majoring in trumpet, and also Peabody Conservatory.
He joined C.G. Conn's as a salesman in 1936, later serving as manager of the Detroit branch. In 1953 he became field sales representative and territorial supervisor of the band sales division, a post he held at the time of his death.
The Allens had lived in Elkhart until 1953, when they purchased the former Edward Fisher farm near here and remodeled it.
Mr. Allen and the former Audry Wilcox were married April 2, 1935. She survives, along with his parents; two children, James, a graduate student at Ball State Teachers Collete, and Harriet, a freshman at Ball State Memorial school of Nursing, Muncie; five brothers, Cecil of Medaryville, Clifford and Dean, Winamac, Bill of Sacramento, Calif., Robert of South Bend; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Emmons, Mrs. Doris Webster and Mrs. Pearl Spillman, all of South Bend.
A member of the Methodist Church, Mr. Allen also belonged to the Kane lodge of Masonry.
Friends may calla the funeral home after 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) until the time of service Thursday. The Rev. Garth Frey of the Wakarusa Methodist Church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Friesen of Elkhart. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Heart Fund.
