Marvin Maurice Smith, 75, passed away at his home on June 5, 2012.

He was born September 13, 1936 to Harvey Lester and Evelyn Morene Teague Smith at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas (they decided to call him Maurice).

His parents, Harvey and Morene Smith, precede Maurice in death.

He leaves behind his wife, Delores [Tedford] Smith; his sons, Michael Douglas Smith, James Franklin Smith and his wife Nina, his daughter, Pamela Marie Smith Spain and her husband Anthony, adopted daughters; Stephanie Ann Lynch and her husband Thomas, Lana Nicole Smith and Crystal Dione Smith. He also had two stepchildren, Christopher Dale Goode and wife Petra, and Debra Annette Burton, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. All that loved him will truly miss him.

He had many immediate family members and friends (some friends dating back to the '1950s'), who could not attend his services because they could not reach his final destination prior to his burial. In addition, some were not notified of his death!

Maurice went into the Marine Corp at the age of 16 (his father Harvey) signed for him to enlist, a few days before finishing his basic training he developed a serious kidney ailment and was given a Honorable Medical Discharge. At the age of 18, he joined the Army where he spent most of his 3 years of service in Germany and discharged in January '1957'' at that time, he returned home to Texas.

He married Joyce McNeill on September 28, 1957; their first-born Michael Douglas Smith was born on July 1, 1958. After which they had two more children, each one-year-older than the other and all born in July. Pamela Marie Smith was born on July 9, 1959 and James Franklin Smith was born on July 18, 1960.

By the time, Maurice was 24 he was working at Texas Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) in Houston, TX. At TIRR, he received training and became a medical equipment expert in Iron Lungs and Chest Respirator's; in addition, he also studied Power House Engineering and passed all State testing to receive his Engineers license.

In '1970' Maurice and his family moved to Elm Mott, TX (right out of Waco), where he went to work for the Hospital that he had been born in, Providence Hospital.
He worked there approximately 3 years, decided he wanted a change and sent his resume to GM in Arlington, TX.

General Motors hired Maurice in Arlington as a Power House Engineer; it is commonly know that out of over 100 applicants he was the first man hired for the Power House in over 20 years. GM is where he worked until his medical retirement in ‘1979'.

Maurice and Joyce raised their three born children and divorced by mutual agreement after 33 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 2 days of marriage.

He married Delores Tedford less than a year later, several years into their marriage they adopted her grandchildren, Stephanie, Lana, and Crystal, All of whom they raised. Maurice was still married to Delores at the time of his death.

There was a small gathering of a few of his family member and friends on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peters Funeral Home.

On Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., there was a small, simple graveside service held at Lynch Memorial Park.
