Many in this community were saddened to learn of the death last Friday, August 31, at 11:15 p.m., of Mrs. Lula Bruce, a well known figure in the Mound neighborhood.

Mrs. Bruce, the former Miss Lula Reed, was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Josiah Reed and was born January 19, 1868, in Illinois, being aged 66 years, 7 months, and 12 days at the time of her death. She came to this county many years ago.

After her marriage to Mr. Bruce she lived the greater part of her life in the Mound neighborhood. She had been in poor health for the past few years, but her immediate death was due to an attack of acute indigestion and she was ill but a short time.

Funeral services were held from the residence Saturday, September 1st, at 3:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Roy F. Bradley, with interment at Little Prairie Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Tom Bruce, who lives near her home, six grandchildren, and four brothers, Messrs. C. W. Reed, Washington, Ark.; Ben Reed, Brooklyn, Ark.; Walter Reed, Cherry Valley, Ark.; and Ogg Reed, Pontiac, Mich.; also one sister, Mrs. Doshia Smitherman of Caruthersville. She was a sister of the late Joe Reed, prominent farmer in the Kinfolks Ridge neighborhood, who died a few years ago.
