"H. A. Hunnicutt" Obituary

"Hosts of friends all over this community were saddened when the news reached them Saturday afternoon, January 24, that H. A. (Harve) Hunnicutt, a well known farmer and landowner living a few miles Southwest of Van Alstyne, had been instantly killed at his home. Further inquiry developed the fact that Mr. Hunnicutt had met death while looking after the carbide plant which furnished lights at his home. It was stated that while engaged in charging the tank, the acetylene gas had exploded blowing him about 15 feet in the air and killing him instantly. Genuine sorrow and regret was expressed by all who knew Mr. Hunnicutt, especially since there seems to be some kind of Fate which has chosen the men of the Hunnicutt family as especial objects in choosing those to whom death must come in some form of accident, this being the third or fourth such casualty to occur among the Hunnicutt brothers.
"Harve Hunnicutt was a native of this section of Texas, born on Jan. 15, 1862, and having spent all of his life in this vicinity. His childhood and young manhood were passed at the home of his parents and on January 2, 1890, he was married to Miss Mary Fifer. To this union were born two daughters, Bessie and Myrtle, Bessie dying at the age of 8 years, and Myrtle passing from earth about three years ago. About the year 1895, Mrs. Hunnicutt was gathered into the spirit land, and on November 2, 1901, Mr. Hunnicutt was married the second time to Miss Ella Ammonett by whom he is survived, together with two sons, Till and Joe, and two daughters, Lucile and Jewel. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: S. F. Hunnicutt, Boswell, Oklahoma; Mrs. S. E. Ward, Madill, Oklahoma; Mrs. G. F. Savage, Van Alstyne; Tom Hunnicutt, Gunter, Mrs. Daisy Batte, Mrs. O. B. Cotten and R. E. (Bob) Hunnicutt, Van Alstyne.
"At the time of his death, Mr. Hunnicutt was 62 years, 9 days old.
"About six years ago, Mr. Hunnicutt became a member of the Christian church during a revival being conducted by Rev. Matthews, and until his death remained a faithful and consistent keeper of his faith.
"All over this community by all to whom he was known he was held in the highest possible esteem as a husband, a father, a citizen and a splendid Christian gentleman. His death, occurring as it did under circumstances of so distressing a nature, was the cause of an outpouring of sympathy and sincere sorrow on the part of all by whom he was known.
"He was also a member of the Maccabees and the Woodmen of the World, fraternal and beneficial organizations.
"Funeral services were held from the First Christian Church on Sunday afternoon, a large gathering of friends assembling to hear the last words spoken over his mortal remains and to bear witness to the regard felt for Mr. Hunnicutt and the sorrow that his taking away should have been of a nature to untimely. Rev. Leo Johnston conducted the service, which was very impressive, his eulogy being an especially eloquent one, and a most feeling tribute to the deceased."
